Levies & Garnishments

Levies are a seizure of funds by the IRS. The IRS can levy almost any type of financial account, source of income or both. Levies on wages are commonly known as garnishments.

What are Levies?

A levy is one of the IRS’s most aggressive forms of collection action. For wages, they are a continuous garnishment on your paycheck. Your employer is required by law to send everything above and beyond your Standard Allowance to the IRS. For small business owners, the IRS will issue Accounts Receivable Levies to your clients or customers. These levies require them to send any amounts due to your company at that time to the IRS. These levies are especially debilitating because you are taking a financial hit and your clients and customers are being notified of your tax problems.

Why Real Tax Remedies?

Bank Levies are a one-time seizure of funds. On the date your bank receives the levy they are required to freeze all of the funds in your account. However, there is a small window in which we may be able to recover some of your funds before they are sent to the IRS. It’s not easy though, so it’s best handled by an experienced representative.

The real reason Wage Garnishments, Accounts Receivable, and Bank Levies are so devastating is because they can be issued repeatedly, as frequently as the IRS wishes until your balance is paid in full. Revenue Officers are particularly aggressive, and you can usually expect back-to-back levies if you fail to respond to their requests. This is where Real Tax Remedies can step in and help you get on the offensive side of a defensive situation.

What can we do?

What’s even more astonishing is that it’s not uncommon for the IRS to issue levies in error or even abuse their authority to issue levies. This misuse of enforcement often goes unchecked because the everyday taxpayer isn't familiar enough with the IRS’s regulations and procedures to realize they are being exploited. This lack of understanding isn’t any fault of yours. This type of policy information is obscure and buried within excessive amounts of tax jargon. That is exactly why you need an experienced tax professional to fight for your rights.

Levies are financially crippling, but they can often be released or better yet prevented. Schedule your free consultation today to find out how we can help.
